Researchers from Penn State University found that people who eat one whole avocado a day have better diet quality.
Although avocado consumption didn’t affect weight or belly fat in participants, it did contribute to reduced sodium intake and increased consumption of healthy fats, along with other health perks.
The findings were published in Current Developments in Nutrition. In the study, when people categorized as having abdominal obesity ate one avocado per day for 26 weeks, they developed a higher-quality diet. After their six months, their diets fell more in line with healthy eating patterns.

“By improving people’s adherence to dietary guidelines, we can help to reduce their risk of developing…chronic conditions and prolong healthy life expectancy,” said Kristina Petersen, PhD, lead author and associate professor of nutritional sciences at Penn State University.

For those aiming to include more avocados in their meals, experts recommend adding them to salads, smoothies, desserts, sandwiches, and various other dishes.
