We all know that following a healthy and balanced diet is important for our overall health, but did you know that certain foods can have an impact on our skin, too? According to a skincare expert, some foods contain collagen, which our skin needs to help improve its texture and even reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

Collagen is packed full of wound-healing and skin-boosting properties and is also known for being able to aid in muscle recovery. There have even been studies that show collagen promotes healthy skin by improving elasticity and hydration.
Doctor Dave Reilly, senior scientist at Absolute Collagen, shared the five foods we should be eating to boost our collagen intake and improve the health of our skin, Wales Online reports. He said: “It’s no secret that the food we eat has a direct impact on our health and wellbeing.
“Aiming to have a balanced diet and being more conscious of the nutrients in your food will not only benefit your overall wellbeing, but it can specifically aid collagen production too. As you age and your collagen production depletes, making small changes to include more collagen-boosting ingredients into your meals will have a real benefit to the appearance and strength of your skin.”
Chicken
If you’ve ever tried to lose weight, you’ll know that chicken is one of the meat products you’re encouraged to eat. But did you know it’s also essential for collagen production? Chicken contains amino acids and minerals that help the collagen in your body work more effectively, giving your body a natural boost just by eating your dinner.


What’s more, studies have indicated that chicken bone collagen peptides might be a good anti-ageing nutritional component, while other research has found that bone broth is a good source of collagen. There is also high amounts of collagen in chicken feet as they are primarily made out of cartilage.
Egg whites
Another common source of protein among gym goers, egg whites can also help boost collagen production. Legumes
For those who don’t eat chicken or egg whites, legumes such as beans, lentils, and chickpeas are great alternatives when it comes to collagen support. Legumes are rich in protein and essential amino acids, making them great for aiding collagen production. What’s more, they’re often a cost-effective way of adding more protein to dishes and can be easily incorporated into soups, stews, and sauces.
