Former ‘Jiro’ Chef Nakazawa Is Selling Delivery Sushi in Los Angeles – Eater LA
It’s been over 18 months since Eater first reported that chef Daisuke Nakazawa is opening a Los Angeles location of his namesake restaurant, Sushi Nakazawa, at 145 North Robertson Boulevard. The high-end sushi temple is still slated to open later this year, straddling the border between Beverly Hills and West Hollywood. But before then, the Jiro Dreams of Sushi protege wants to give Angelenos a taste of what’s to come with a delivery-only service called Hi Dozo (stylized as Hi. Dozo), available through DoorDash starting Tuesday, May 28.
“I know that Eater has been writing about Sushi Nakazawa opening soon for a long time,” says Nakazawa. “We had been quietly working on Hi Dozo throughout much of this time, and it just worked out that we were able to launch this sooner than we are opening the restaurant.”

Hi Dozo, which translates to “Hi. Here you go,” offers four sushi sets ranging from $29 to $54, with six, eight, or 12 pieces of nigiri, along with edamame, sashimi, futomaki, wasabi, ginger, and Nakazawa’s proprietary soy sauce blend. Pricing for a la carte sashimi and nigiri starts at $8. The menu also includes a DIY hand roll kit for $29 that comes with three kinds of fish (toro, yellowtail, salmon), ikura, rice, nori, pickled cucumbers, and seaweed salad. The maki-only option for $25 includes three different kinds of rolls, pickled cucumbers, and seaweed salad. Hi Dozo’s modular packaging borrows heavily from Sugarfish’s signature sleek to-go box approach.

Chef Nakazawa opened the original Sushi Nakazawa in New York’s West Village in 2013, earning four stars from New York Times restaurant critic Pete Wells before losing a star in 2020. The New York location also has a Michelin star. Nakazawa opened the second location at the Trump International Hotel in 2018; the hotel has since been converted into a Waldorf Astoria.
Hi Dozo will be available for delivery through DoorDash Monday to Saturday from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Sunday from noon to 9 p.m. in North Hollywood, Toluca Lake, Burbank, Sherman Oaks, and Hollywood.
