This addition will enable Instacart customers to select from local dining establishments and monitor their orders in real-time.

Uber will supply the restaurant listings, manage the transactions and dispatch Uber Eats couriers for order fulfilment.

Instacart CEO and chair Fidji Simo said: “Through this partnership, Instacart customers now have access to both the best online grocery selection in the US and restaurant delivery, making it even easier for them to conveniently tackle all their food needs from a single app.

“Whether it’s ingredients for a beloved family recipe, a prepared meal from a nearby grocer or takeout from a favourite restaurant – customers can now get the food they want, from the retailers and restaurants they love, all within the Instacart app.”

Instacart+ subscribers will receive free delivery on orders above $35 for both groceries and restaurant meals.

The companies did not disclose the financial details of the partnership.

Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi said: “Our goal is to make it effortless for people to go anywhere and get anything. We’re excited that this new strategic partnership with Instacart will bring the magic of Uber Eats to even more consumers, drive more business for restaurants, and create more earnings opportunities for couriers.”

Integrating restaurant delivery within the Instacart app will generate additional orders for Uber Eats’ restaurant affiliates.

Domino’s Pizza Canada selected Uber Eats as its exclusive delivery partner.

The initial phase will integrate more than 260 Domino’s outlets in Ontario into the Uber Eats app, with ambitions to encompass all Canadian locations by the end of May 2024.
