The carnivore diet, which involves consuming only animal products and excluding all plant-based foods, has gained popularity on social media platforms. However, this extreme diet is not suitable for everyone and can pose significant health risks. Rob Barton from Factory Weights has warned there are groups of people who should avoid the carnivore diet.

Rob said: “While the carnivore diet may appeal to some due to its simplicity and the promise of quick results, it is not suitable for everyone. The lack of variety and essential nutrients can lead to serious health issues, particularly for those with existing medical conditions or specific nutritional needs.

“Always consult with a healthcare professional before making drastic changes to your diet to ensure it aligns with your individual health requirements and goals.”

This diet gained traction around 2018, and has celebrity followers. According to healthline, certain aspects of the carnivore diet may lead to weight loss. Some studies have shown that high-protein and low-carb diets can promote weight loss because protein can help you feel more full after meals, which may lead to reduced calorie intake and subsequent weight loss. Protein can also increase your metabolic rate, helping you burn more calories. The highly restrictive nature of the carnivore diet makes it difficult to follow long term, and the fact it involves so much meat means it is high in saturated fat and sodium and may lack some nutrients.
