A recent poll has revealed a surprising trend among non-vegans: a significant portion would consider switching to a vegan diet if provided with more plant-based options at restaurants. The survey, conducted among 1,000 carnivores, indicates that 78% of respondents already embrace meat-free days, averaging two per week. Additionally, 30% acknowledge the environmental benefits of eliminating animal products from their diet.

The findings underscore the growing demand for vegan options in eateries, with 47% emphasizing the importance of a diverse range of plant-based dishes. Reasons cited include catering to dietary preferences, promoting healthier eating habits, and contributing to animal welfare. The study was commissioned by Viva! as part of its 50by25 campaign, urging restaurants to make half of their menu vegan by 2025.

A spokesperson for Viva! expressed optimism about the shift, stating, “It’s great to see so many meat eaters consider adopting a vegan diet, not just for the animals they are saving, but to protect the planet as well. A plant-based diet can cut a dish’s climate impact by half, so it really is a big difference compared to meat alternatives. And it’s a really positive step to see even people who don’t follow a vegan diet recognize and act on this.”

The research also revealed a noticeable increase in vegan options at local restaurants over the past five years, a development welcomed by 49% of respondents as beneficial to their communities. Moreover, 68% view minimal environmental impact as crucial in food choices.

According to OnePoll’s data, 31% of participants would contemplate reducing meat consumption for environmental reasons. A spokesperson for Viva! emphasized the importance of restaurant choices in facilitating dietary shifts, noting the role of eateries in shaping eating habits by offering enticing and environmentally friendly plant-based options.
