Amazon expands partnership with food delivery platform – Chain Store Age

Amazon customers in the U.S. have a new option to order food directly from restaurants nationwide without leaving the e-commerce retailer’s site. And there’s an extra perk for Prime members.
In an expansion of its partnership with food delivery platform Grubhub, the online giant has embedded Grubhub into Amazon.com and the Amazon shopping app. Rather than having to download or switch to the Grubhub app, customers can now visit a dedicated section of the Amazon site or app and complete a food delivery order with Grubhub.
The ordering experience is identical to the experience on the Grubhub site or app, with the same restaurant prices offered on Grubhub and payment to delivery personnel made the same way it would be for orders directly from Grubhub.
In addition, Prime members now have access to a free ongoing Grubhub+ membership worth $120 a year, without automatically renewing into a paid Grubhub+ membership. The membership includes $0 delivery fees on eligible orders over $12, lower service fees, 5% credit back on pick-up orders, and exclusive offers. (In 2023, Amazon added another year to a free 12-month offer that let U.S. members of the Prime paid loyalty program sign up for a free one-year membership in the Grubhub+ premium plan, which the e-tailer launched when it purchased its Grubhub stake.)
“We know Prime members value savings on food delivery, so we are extending the $0 delivery fees and exclusive savings with Grubhub+ for Prime members, and now customers can enjoy easy access to Grubhub from the Amazon store and app,” said Jamil Ghani, VP of Amazon Prime.
Amazon initially partnered with Grubhub in August 2021, when members of its college-focused Prime Student loyalty program were offered exclusive savings for services including Grubhub+ Student on-demand food delivery.
